Pepsi Cola Bottle Cap Redo

Billy B. brought this old rusty sign by a while back and asked if I could do anything with it. As you can tell, you could barely see the design. After doing a little research, I found out this particular design was used from 1906 until the '40s. I proceeded to scuff the worst-rusted parts off, then sprayed some rust reformer over it.

Billy had mentioned the background color was not white, and the research proved it. I found some ivory satin, made by Rustoleum and sprayed several coats on.

I cut the vinyl to scale.

The blue has been transferred to the sign.

Red is transferred and shot taken while drying.

Clearcoat of satin clear added, and this is the finished sign.
The circle was roughly 16" in diameter.

Christmas Gifts

1/28/19

Wow! Over a month later getting this on; I must be pushing old. Anyway, my nephew, Heath, is a big Auburn fan and plays golf every chance he gets, so for Christmas he decided to purchase this cart for his two boys. The oldest plays too, and I'm sure the younger one will eventually. Needless to say, I'm sure they pull for Auburn with their dad.
Heath asked if I could cut out some vinyl with the Auburn logo and stripe it like their helmets on both sides. This is the result. Pretty nice gift.

Sweet Annie's

10/4/18

In Pam's never-ending search for all things antique and old-timey, she came across this little shop, not far from home. In her conversation with the lady, she found out they needed a sign.
This is the result - one panel, two sides.

Billy brought by his cast iron mailbox that was in dire need of reworking. It had been previously painted and decals applied, but they were peeling off. I hope these last a little longer.

More Corn Hole Business

Billy B. sent me this pic last night of another set of corn hole boards he had made; I think they may be for his daughter. Nevertheless, you can bet they are Bama fans.

A Cornhole Tale

12/14/17

Billy B. actually asked me if I could do these for him before we did the rework of the old Coca-Cola sign. He wasn't quite finished with the cornhole boards at the time, so later he picked them up. He was, like most folks, a little hesitate to apply these himself, but I assured him he could do it. He just sent me these pics and I think he did a mighty fine job!

Coca-Cola Rework

12/10/17

Repeat customer Billy B. told me a while back that he had an old Coca-Cola sign and wanted me to see if I could do anything with it. It measured almost 12" x24" and was, as you can see, made from a galvanized sheet of metal. For some odd reason, only the white lettering was peeling off, but was painted over the red background.
Galvanized sheet metal is a lot like aluminum as far as trying to paint directly on it. Without proper preparation, in time, the paint will peel off.
The first thing I did was brush on a coating of MEK - some wickedly strong solvent and scraped it off with a putty knife. What little paint was left was sanded off by hand, then a coating of white vinegar was applied and allowed to set. This is a mild acid and actually etches the metal, to give it a "tooth" for subsequent coatings of paint to adhere to.
This was rinsed off and then washed with soap and water and allowed to dry.
Two coats of primer were applied and then two coats of top coat. To give it an old look, I decided to sand the sheen off, then buffed it all down and applied the vinyl. We think it turned out pretty good and wouldn't mind having one like it.
